Flat cap sizes
Most flat caps come in S to XXL. Traditional makers also sell fitted sizes, with each letter covering two fitted sizes.

How a flat cap should fit
A flat cap sits level and slightly forward, with the band about 1 cm above the ears. It should feel secure without pressing on the forehead, and the top panel should reach the brim without pulling.
Scally caps and newsboy caps
Boston-style scally caps are usually sold in S to XXL. Newsboy caps, with their eight-panel crown, follow the same sizes but feel roomier on top, so if you are between sizes the smaller one often works.
Fit tips
- Wool flat caps can shrink slightly if they get soaked. Let them dry on a rounded form.
- If a cap feels loose, a strip of foam sizing tape behind the sweatband takes it down about half a size.
